Steel Grating Types

Type A
Most popular. A good choice where moderately heavy load (particularly small wheeled vehicles) must be carried, or wherever weight is suspended across a large span of grating. Constructed of MIG welding two courses of bent bars between each bearing bar. One complete diamond is formed between bearing bars.

Other stainless steel gratings (A,AL,BF) will not have serrated bearing bars
Type AL
Less load bearing. Excellent choice where pedestrian traffic is heavy and firm foot control is important. Fewer bearing bars means easier cleaning. A plus where walkway sanitation is a primary concern. Four courses of bent bars MIG welded between each bearing bar. Pattern is that of two complete diamonds between bearing bars.

Other stainless steel gratings (A,AL,BF) will not have serrated bearing bars
Type B
Where the best is required. Carries the greatest weight on unsupported spans. A single course of bent bars MIG welded between each bearing bar. A small half diamond is formed between bearing bars. Our heaviest duty grating.

Type "B" grating not available in stainless steel.
Other stainless steel gratings (A,AL,BF) will not have serrated bearing bars

Type BF
More economical than Type B. A good choice for a variety of heavy load bearing application, especially suited for pit or trench areas. Formed by a single course of bent bars MIG welded between each bearing bar. Characterized by large, open half diamond between bearing bars.

Other stainless steel gratings (A,AL,BF) will not have serrated bearing bars
Type P- Protecto.
Large open spacing and lighter in weight. Formed by welding together high crest multiple courses of bent bars. There are no bearing bars.
Type M*
Floor overlay. Formed by welding together high crest multiple courses of bent bars to produce a small diamond. There are no bearing bars.

*Type M can be combined with banding wrap around for strength, making it an excellent choice for steps or custom work surfaces.
